Two-toned fudge.

I got the strangest sense of déjà vu just now while adding these photos and I’d swear I already wrote (or possibly dreamed?) this entire post once upon a time. And not just the post, but the fudge as well. I’VE MADE THIS FUDGE BEFORE. Weird. How do you feel about déjà vu? Is it a psychic phenomenon? A dream remembered? A memory of past events?

I’d like to believe it’s psychic ability. I always thought it’d be fun to be a psychic. Well, for things like winning lottery numbers and avoiding traffic, naturally. None of that doom and gloom stuff, thank you very much.

Thinking about this has me wanting to ask all sorts of random questions, but they’re all rather morbid, so instead I ask you this: would you rather have one wish granted today or three wishes granted in 10 years? (And there’s NO WISHING FOR MORE WISHES.)

Oh, yeah. Fudge. DO NOT make this fudge if you don’t like rich, creamy, incredibly easy and delicious fudge. ‘Cause you’ll totally regret it. And then I’ll have to come over and eat it so that you won’t have to look at it for one more second (because I’m accommodating like that) and then I’ll cry ’cause I’m getting fatter everyday. No. Seriously. This is why I will make The Husband PROMISE to kick me out of bed when my alarm goes off at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning because I need to get my ass to the gym.

This fudge is amazing. The recipe is for peanut butter and chocolate, but you could use any flavor chip combo you want. Mint. White chocolate. Butterscotch? I’m not sure you could go wrong with any of them.

Ingredients
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup peanut butter chips
1 7-ounce jar marshmallow cream
3/4 cup evaporated milk
1/4 cup butter
2 1/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

1. Put the chocolate chips and peanut butter chips in separate, heat-safe bowls.
2. Mix together the marshmallow, milk, butter and sugar over medium heat.
3. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
4. Boil and stir for five minutes.
5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
6. Pour half the mixture into each bowl of chips; stir until melted.
7. Pour melted chocolate into foil-lined 8 by 8 inch pan. Quickly pour the melted peanut butter chips over it.
8. Let cool on the counter.

Work quickly, but safely. And try to divide the marshmallow mixture as evenly as possible. I didn’t pour enough into my chocolate chips which made it very thick and hard to spread. I believe this is what caused the obvious separation between the two flavors. But it certainly didn’t detract from the taste and my enjoyment of it.

Did I mention I need to go to the gym?

The beer bottles? I used them as a background for the pictures. ‘Cause I’m creative and resourceful like that. And I felt the need to share that tidbit with you. You’re welcome.

  1. Using the beer bottles? Way cool. I had to go back and look at the pictures, because I was too focused on the fudge to notice the background (sorry).

I have deja vu too. It’s usually from a dream, and they are totally random things. One time I dreamed my car would break down and one of my friend’s husbands would help me fix the car. Weird…why would I call him instead of Big Daddy? Well, it happened a few weeks later. I was with my friend when the battery in my car died. Her husband was home from work that day, and he came to help me change the battery. Weird, right?

See, I knew it was a psychic phenomenon.

  2. Dangit those look scrumptious and easy! My fav combination.
Good choice in beverages. They give a lovely background, almost a beer bokeh, almost.
Is beer fattening? Oh crap. Explains alot.

I don’t think this beer is too fattening. Actually, I don’t drink it. The Husband does. (I go for the really fattening stuff when I drink.) But when I saw all the empty bottles, I thought it might provide an interesting background. And I really liked it.

  3. Can I tell you a secret? I have never eaten fudge in my life. Are you still alive?!

I would want one wish granted today. I can’t wait for ten years. Well, I can but I don’t want to.
But I would think long and hard before making that wish.

No, maybe I need to wait those ten years. AAAAAaagg, I don’t know. Now I’m confused.

I insist you go eat a piece of fudge RIGHT NOW. I won’t be able to concentrate until you do.

  4. You finally hit on a recipe that I don’t immediately drool over. Except for Reese’s, I don’t like peanut butter and chocolate together. This post did, however, wake my desire for peanut butter fudge…

I sometimes wonder if deja vu happens when we are so in the moment that we start remembering it as it happens. Does that make any sense? Kinda takes the romance out of it, though.

As for the wishes, I’ll take one now, please. Having that one wish granted would make me deliriously happy and render a lot of other wishes moot. Not to mention that I want what I want when I want it, which is pretty much NOW.

Violet, you could easily omit the chocolate and use two cups of peanut butter chips. That would be AWESOME. I love peanut butter, period. As for the wishes… I’m all about instant gratification, too. (I have zero patience.) Even though three wishes are tempting, I don’t think I could wait.

  5. Fudge is like crack to me. Toss in some peanut butter chips and I’m might need to go to Sugarholics Anonymous. Seriously…. And I’d rather have 3 wishes over 10 years. I’m content with my life right now, but who knows what the future holds?

I can’t stay away from fudge either. And when we travel, I’m always looking out for candy shops that make their own.

  6. I love when deja vu happens! That fudge looks amazing! I can almost taste it when I read your ingredient list! I have only made fudge once in my life and I loved it. Maybe it’s time to make it again! I think I would want one wish granted now. Hey, I might not be here in ten years. Remember, my hubby is doom and gloom man!

I like the feeling of deja vu, too. I just get frustrated trying to pinpoint why I’m experiencing it. Was it a dream? Something that happened in the past? You should definitely try this fudge. Fudge can be rather difficult. This one is easy. And really tasty. I can’t wait to try some other flavor combos.

  7. The other day I was at a training seminar where they asked us to write down one wish we had, something realistic. I had nothing. Even after thinking about it through the entire lecture, I still could think of nothing I wanted to wish for. I finally wrote down my husband’s wish (meet the president).
I’m contented for now, so I think I would take the option of waiting ten years.
Good looking fudge. My husband isn’t much of a fudge man, so I end up either eating it all or bringing it (and getting accused of trying to make everyone fat).

What’s funny is I often bring what I bake to work and yet I hate it when other people do the same. See, Monday is my day to bake and splurge. That’s it. The other days? I’m trying to eat right, stay on track… if people continue to bring sweets in, well, I’m in trouble. I know. Double standards and all that…

  8. Cute, cute, cute, I’m trying the beer bottle thing next time also. Good idea. I’m also making the dessert for the 4th, my family does not really like chocolate, so more for me. MMM!

Your family doesn’t like CHOCOLATE?! This is tragic. My husband… he’s not a sweets guy either. I just can’t wrap my brain around it.

  9. That is some fantastic fudge! Additionally that is some photography badassery! You just rock!

I think the word “badassery” rocks. ;)

  10. So delicious looking and I love the background effect of the beer bottles! My mom made fudge recently and inspired me to try myself (never have) but I will use this as my first attempt. Thanks!

Since fudge can be rather difficult, this would be a great recipe for a first attempt. Good luck!

  11. The fudge looks great and the beer bottle background is pretty darn creative. Talk about reduce/reuse/recycle. : )

  12. That fudge looks really good. I love the idea of the beer bottles… that’s really cool.

Isn’t deja vu when something goes through your head twice in a row…? Like, you think of something and then in less than a second you think of it again, but your brain doesn’t remember thinking about it the first time (all occurring within the less than a second)?

  13. I am salivating looking at those photos. I definitely have to try this recipe. Thank you!!!!!

  14. The beer bottles worked wonders. That’s some serious bokeh!! LOVE! =)

Also, I’m sorry, but it should be illegal to show a pregnant woman fudge like this. It’s 4am, I am awake, and now I am thinking “hm, it’s not actually CRAZY to go start whipping up fudge at this hour…is it?”

  15. [...] Peanut Butter and Chocolate Two-Toned Fudge at Chocolate and [...]

  16. Peanut butter fudge + chocolate sounds like a delish combination. Actually, I’ve never eaten fudge before either O_O wow! that’s really amazing! I guess I just never got around to it or something.. plus, I don’t know what marshmallow creme is… but i could probably find it at the supermarket, right?

as for deja vu, i think it’s an interesting concept. sometimes I wonder if it has anything to do with parallel universes… you know like, your other self did something similar to this and somehow our brains are all connected?!?! aaahhhh!

  17. Bad TV, that wouldn’t be the Real Housewives from Hell, would it? ;000)

Fabulous recipe. That’s me reing up my gym membership ‘cuz I couldn’t stop with one.

  18. did you know you could take a can of condensed milk and 3 cups of chips dash of salt 1 teaspoon of vanillia and nut if you want melt altogether and make fudge that away and you wont be disappointed. Thought i’d let ya know you don’t have to do all that cooking for good fudge.

  19. I DO NOT LIKE HAVING TO PRINT 16 PAGES JUST TO GET A RECIPE. PLEASE MAKE THE RECIPES
EASIER TO PRINT. I READ ALL THE INFO ON THE
PAGE BUT I DON’T WANT IT IN MY RECIPE BOOK.
    THANK YOU, SUSAN

Susan, your comment comes across as rude. But I’m sure you don’t mean it that way. I no longer use WordPress. You can find my blog at http://www.chocolateandwhine.com where my recipes are easier to access and print.

  20. I like to save recipes. I do not like to print out 9 pages
That is a waste of paper and ink.
I would very much like to have the recipe for
    two-tone fudge.

Betty, I’m sorry you unnecessarily printed so many pages, but wasn’t it obvious that this blog wasn’t designed for easy printing? I no longer blog on WordPress. If interested, you can find my recipes at http://www.chocolateandwhine.com where they’re easier to access and print.

  21. Today I was about to make fudge and decided to wait until tomorrow due to time running out after a long week of job hunting. I’m actually glad that I did now. The recipe looks great. My Mother wanted me to make her some peanut butter chocolate fudge and she loves marshmallow cream! She will go nuts over this combo. It’s easy too! I’m a caterer by trade and I’m sure this will end up on my holiday munchie list. Thanks . I truly wish I had that one wish! God knows I need it right about now. Funds are low and debts are high. Could use a lot of deja vu too. Need some favor to shine on me BIG TIME! Things were better for old schoolers like me when it came to actually working for a living. I intend to indulge and share your gift this week-end. Hope yours is GREAT!
